How I Used Chalkola Markers to Paint Pumpkins

Full disclosure: I am not one of those crafty moms. I don’t enjoy crafts or sew or make anything by hand. I love to have fun with my kids though and they LOVE crafts.

When it comes to arts and crafts with my kids, I want to do things that are either super easy or come with directions. I also love when it’s easy clean up!

So when Chalkola sent me some chalk markers and a super cute chalkboard to try, I knew I was going to love them! They are non-toxic and super easy to clean up which is perfect for projects with the kids!

We decided it would be super fun to paint some pumpkins with our chalk markers-since they’re basically like paint markers that can be easily wiped up on smooth surfaces.

Here are the easy steps to painting pumpkins with chalk markers to make your perfect fall decor or to just have some fun with your kids.

STEP 1: BUY SOME PUMPKINS

Ok this is probably super obvious, but get to that pumpkin patch with your fam and get you some pumpkins if you haven’t already! If you have local farms near you that are selling pumpkins, go support them. Our local businesses need our support now more than ever!

STEP 2: GET YOUR CHALK MARKERS READY

If you don’t already have them, you can order them here.  Use the discount code CHALKOLA10 for your Amazon orders! Once you’ve received them, you’ll need to follow the directions by shaking the marker and then pressing the marker tip down until you see the color.

STEP 3: PAINT YOUR PUMPKINS

My boys are 5 and 3, so I just let them color on the pumpkins, but you could get stencils or draw silly faces very easily with the chalk markers.

STEP 4: LET THEM DRY

Ok another obvious step, you need to let them dry. My boys used a LOT of colors so it did take them overnight to dry. I’m sure they would dry faster if they weren’t layered with so many colors. We set ours on some paper towels so they didn’t get color on the counters- although it wipes right up!

STEP 5: CLEAN UP

This is probably the easiest step! Put those marker caps on and wipe up any paint from the markers that may have gotten on your table or counter with a wet rag or multi surface cleaner and paper towel. Have your kids wash their hands with soap and water. There you have it.

STEP 6: DISPLAY YOUR ART

If you’re like me and not crafty, you can ask your creative cousin to write on your chalkboard sign to make your fall decor pumpkin display look super cute.

One thing I do enjoy is decorating! So I found a great spot in my kitchen to display all the kids pumpkin artwork along with our chalkboard sign. I am so looking forward to changing the sign for the season and love that there are so many color options with the Chalkola markers. They even have metallic colors!

  1. I never really knew painting pumpkins was a thing until recently. Hubby and I have ours ready to carve and I thought of using an expo to draw my outline before carving!!
