How To Handle Postpartum Hair Loss

If you’re like most moms, then you’ve probably experienced some postpartum hair loss at some point during the first year of postpartum recovery. I had 4 babies, all 22 months apart so I know the cycle all too well.  I’ve learned how to handle postpartum hair loss over the last 6 years and I’m excited to share a few tips with you.

Whether you’re dealing with postpartum hair thinning, postpartum hair regrowth, or simply looking for some postpartum hair style tips, I’ve got you covered. I tried a lot of different ways to handle postpartum hair loss and these are things that have worked for me and other postpartum moms.

Get Bangs to Help Handle Postpartum Hair Loss

Get Bangs

The first thing I did when the hair started growing back along my hairline, was I decided to get bangs. With all the little baby hairs growing in around my forehead, bangs were the perfect style to cover the new hair growth as it came in, and let me wear messy buns without showing off all of the little fly always. Bangs might not work for everyone, but they are definitely a great option for those willing to try a new hair style.

Continue Prenatal Vitamins to Encourage Healthy Hair

My doctors always encouraged me to continue taking my prenatal vitamins while I was breastfeeding. The great thing about prenatal vitamins is they also help promote healthy hair, skin and nails, as does a well balanced diet. Vitamins aren’t going to stop hair loss, but it is definitely a great start in promoting healthy hair.

Take Collagen to Aid in Postpartum Hair Growth

Collagen Peptides

After my 4th baby,  I added a collagen supplement to my routine. I found a tasteless collagen peptide powder by Unico Nutrition that I was able to add to my morning coffee. It was the perfect easy way to promote hair growth and healthy skin. I even noticed clearer, healthier skin after adding it to my morning routine. I actually have psoriasis prone skin and scalp, and saw a major improvement to my psoriasis while taking the collagen peptide supplement.

Picasso Scalp Micropigmentation

Picasso Scalp Micropigmentation

One idea you may not have thought of to help minimize the obvious hair thinning is to try Picasso Scalp Micropigmentation. Scalp micropigmentation is a non-surgical, innovative treatment option for baldness in many forms. They use microdot tattoos to give the appearance of healthy hair follicles in the pattern of a regular hairline. Scalp micropigmentation in California can help fill in some thin areas, even with longer hairstyles. This is a great option for moms they may want to fill in the thinning along their hairlines.

Accessorize with Hats or Headbands

Accessorize

Another easy way to cover up the awkward regrowth or obvious hair thinning, is to add in some cute headbands and hats to your accessory repertoire.  I love the knotted headbands that add some extra style and flare to any outfit or a cute wide brimmed hat.  Not only do these accessories elevate your look, they also double as excellent cover ups.

Wear Wigs Postpartum

How to handle postpartum hair loss by wearing wigs

Some women opt to wear wigs to cover their postpartum hair loss. There are so many fun options out there that look so real. Most would never know you’ve been wearing a wig. Another fun thing about wearing wigs is that you can change your hairstyle and color by simply swapping out your wig that day.  This versatility makes wigs a great style option for moms, even if hair loss isn’t a concern.
